The Turgenev Library’s holdings feature books spanning different languages, genres, and formats, including poetry, press, translations, historical and archival materials, as well as the newest publications in fiction and non-fiction. In addition to the new acquisitions carefully selected and made available by the Library team, we invite you to explore our rich historical collection of over 45,000 titles.
To search for publications currently available at the Turgenev Library, please use the following catalogues that are actively being updated and expanded by our team:
• The online catalogue, where approximately half of our collection is currently listed and is available for browsing.
• The list of periodicals produced by the Russian-speaking diaspora in Europe over many decades, available separately for browsing; these items have been carefully collected and preserved by the Library.
• The classic paper catalogue (alphabetical and thematic), available physically in the library. This catalogue can be explored during the Library’s opening hours , with support from the library team, where required.
We also welcome you to take advantage of our open-access reading area. There we offer children’s books and Russian translations of world literature. Next to it, you can also find a continuously expanding collection of the so-called “new tamizdat,” consisting of hundreds of books in Russian that were recently published outside Russia with an aim to preserve authors’ freedom of expression amid increasing censorship pressures that have intensified since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
