Visit and loan

On these pages you can find key information about the library’s location, opening hours, free use of the reading room, support and the conditions for obtaining a membership card that allows you to borrow books.

Search our catalogues

The catalogues of the Turgenev Library are available both in paper form and online. As the library’s holdings have not yet been fully digitised, this work is ongoing as we continue to organise the information in a convenient way for our readers. To date, already about half of the titles are available online with more due to be available soon. For now, we invite you to visit the library to browse the remaining half using the classic card catalogue.

Learn more about us

A censorship-free association, the Turgenev Library was founded in 1875. Its fate is closely linked to a century and a half of European history, marked by progress, catastrophes, and revivals. Today, the Library retains a central place in the cultural and public landscape of Russian-speaking Europe.

Support our work

To continue developing our projects, offer our services and cover running costs, the Library relies heavily on support of our readers, visitors and friends. There are various  and simple ways to support us by offering volunteering support, making a donation, purchasing of library’s promotional goods or  duplicate copies of remarkable books from our holdings.
